Unit Overview

TS Tamatoa is a Sea Cadet Unit of New Zealand Cadet Forces, based in Petone, Wellington.

We accept teenagers for challenging disciplined training with a naval "flavour".

All cadets train from 7pm (19:00 hours) until 9pm (21:00 hours) on Thursday evenings during school terms.

A variety of optional activities are available for cadets most weekends. These activities range from sailing and powerboat handling, to bushcraft and abseiling.

Although cadets are not part of the New Zealand Defence Force, they wear naval uniforms, and are given opportunities to attend specialist training at defence bases during school holidays. When these courses are outside Wellington, transport is provided at no cost (either bus or Air Force plane) by the New Zealand Defence Force.

Our officers have all been with New Zealand Cadet Forces for long periods. All of them have developed specialist "off-the-water" skills, such as abseiling, firearm safety, bushcraft, and many other disciplines as well as having a great deal of nautical experience.
